What Would a Grand Wagoneer Trailhawk Look Like?

Although it’s unlikely at this point, it’s fun to imagine an off-road-ready version of the newest, largest Jeep Wagoneer SUV.

Like you, we were excited when we heard that the Grand Wagoneer was poised to make its triumphant return to Jeep dealerships. When the actual vehicle itself was revealed, though, we were less than pleased. It just didn’t seem all that exciting to us.

We’re not sure what, exactly, we were expecting as Jeep enthusiasts. However, another run-of-the-mill full-size SUV wasn’t really what we had in mind. That’s probably what we should have been expecting, but you can’t blame us for filling our heads with visions of chrome bumpers and wood trim. After all, that Grand Wagoneer name is legendary, and it carries a lot of weight, both literally and figuratively.

Due to its large size, you won’t see a “Trail Rated” badge on the new SUV. However, Motor Trend had their in-house artist, Abimelec Arellano, fantasize about what a Trailhawk variant might look like. We like what we see, so we decided to share it with you. It would add some much-needed excitement to the Wagoneer lineup.

Tasteful Updates, Minor Changes

Motor Trend has a pretty realistic view of what a Trailhawk Wagoneer would entail. Their expectations are that this theoretical trim would follow in the footsteps of other Trailhawk models, despite the Wagoneer’s luxury intentions. That means more aggressive tires, skid plates, rock rails, and, of course, the ubiquitous red tow hooks.

It’s also a possibility that the bumpers will be massaged to aid in approach/departure angles, as well as some more subdued trim. Specifically, they think that chrome would be blacked out, and you’d also likely see a matte black anti-glare decal on the hood. The Wagoneer is already pretty burly from a mechanical standpoint. The only real suggestions are for updated electronics, including an electronic differential with user-selectable settings. Perhaps the Trailhawk Wagoneer would also re-tune the air suspension for better off-road performance.

At this stage, it’s unlikely that this Wagoneer Trailhawk fantasy will actually become a reality. It is, however, an entertaining flight of fancy. Then again, maybe Jeep has something in store for us. After all, we’ve been wrong before.
