Walkaround Highlights What’s New on the 2024 Wrangler Willys 4xe

YouTuber Mr. Hollywood Ram Promaster takes us on a tour of a new 2024 Wrangler Willys 4xe.

In a recent video, a YouTuber who runs the channel Mr. Hollywood Ram Promaster takes a few minutes to show viewers some new features of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe. For the record, Mr. Hollywood Ram Promaster, whose real name is Michael Marzec, is in charge of social media for the Jack Phelan Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM dealership outside Chicago.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, which is a plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV), is only available in a four-door Unlimited configuration. If you’re not familiar with PHEVs, the Wrangler 4xe fully charges overnight via a standard 110-volt household outlet. With access to a more powerful Level 2 charger, the charging time drops to 2 hours.

Once charged to capacity, Wrangler 4xe drivers can travel up to 21 miles on battery power alone before the gasoline engine kicks in. That might not sound like much all-electric range, but according to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, more than 70% of all trips are less than 10 miles.

A new, shorter grille makes room for a factory winch

Starting at the front, Marzec points out the signature blue tow hooks that visually differentiate this Willys as a 4xe hybrid. Above those virtue-signaling tow hooks sits the new-for-2024 radiator grille that’s vertically shorter than the outgoing model. The shorter grille freshens up the Wrangler’s styling while also making room for a newly available factory Warn winch.

Mr. Marzec also points out a pair of LED headlamps. However, LED lighting is actually an extra cost option on the Willys 4xe. Our subject example carries the Willys trim level and is finished in Earl paint. Presumably, Earl is shorthand for Earl Gray, though there’s definitely a blue/green tint to this color as well.

The Willys rolls on larger rubber for 2024

Next, the video lingers on what’s termed “high-profile” tires. Though not specifically mentioned, the 2024 Willys wears 33-inch tall all-terrain rubber, compared with 32-inch for the prior model year. That is a legitimate upgrade, to be sure.

Marzec also points out, somewhat humorously, that the Willys is more off-road oriented than some other trim levels. But at the same time, acknowledging that some folks buy them for traversing pothole-filled urban landscapes instead. Our YouTuber also mentions that the Willys trim is “a budget version of the Rubicon,” which is more true than ever for 2024. Besides the larger 33-inch tall tires, an electrically locking rear differential is standard.

What’s new inside?

One of the most significant upgrades for 2024 is a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display. Best of all, the massive touchscreen is standard on every Jeep Wrangler, regardless of model or trim level. As Marzec points out, the dash pad surrounding the center stack is swathed in materials that look and feel more premium than past iterations.

Moving to the cargo area of the Willys 4Xe unearthed a couple of things your author wasn’t previously aware of. Having owned a YJ, TJ, and JK, I didn’t know that the JL has a spacious storage bin under the floor of the cargo area, complete with a drain plug. There are also receptacles in this vicinity for securely stowing the hardware for the removable doors, roof, and windshield — neat.
