How-To Tuesday: Automatic Transmission Diagnostic
One of the many things that you may find yourself taking for granted on your Jeep is the transmission. I’m not sure what the percentage of JK’s sold with an automatic transmission versus the manual transmission, but this week we are going to do a little bit of trouble shooting of the automatic variety.
This week’s How-To Tuesday article has been dubbed, “The Automatic Transmission Diagnostic Guide,” and by definition that would be correct. A guide is a person who advises or shows the way to others. This article does a great job at starting that process, and leads you down a few paths to help you work towards forming a conclusion, or at least a starting point.
Troubleshooting an automatic transmission isn’t as big of a challenge as you may imagine. The first step is figuring out if you are, or have been noticing, a change in how the Jeep is shifting under normal situations. I know that I’ve had concerns in the past with a few of my vehicles, although they have generally been during odd acceleration situations. Which could likely contribute to what simply felt like an off shift point. Of course being able to replicate the issue at hand can sometimes be the most challenging part of troubleshooting. Obviously a newer Jeep may give you one of those nice warning lights on the instrumentation panel, but we all know that’s simply a recommendation light, right? Right? NO? Well, back to the drawing board for me.
