Dave Doetsch Gunny Tribute Wrangler JK

Dubbed ‘The Gunny,’ Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon built by Rugged Ridge goes above and beyond the call of duty.

JK Forum is coming to you live from SEMA 2018, where we’re not only celebrating the Jeep Wrangler’s ninth consecutive title as SEMA’s favorite off-roader, but also checking out all of the cool Jeep builds on the floor.

And speaking of legends, we happened upon one of the baddest tribute Jeep builds around, the Dave Doetsch Gunny Tribute Wrangler JK by Rugged Ridge.

Built by Dave Doetsch and his crew at Doetsch Off-Road in Chandler, Arizona, this rugged Wrangler began life as a 2016 Unlimited Rubicon model before its transformation into the ultimate tribute to famed military veteran, actor and personality, R. Lee Ermey. Ermey was staff sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, and was made a honorary gunnery sergeant following his service; thus, his nickname, “Gunny.”

The Gunny Wrangler is as tough as its namesake, rolling on a set of KMC Machete beadlock wheels wrapped in 40-inch Toyo Open Country tires. The front pair of wheels are attached to a beefy Dana 60, the rear to a Sterling 10.5-inch with air locker. The inside, meanwhile, features a custom leather interior with Doetsch’s logo stitched into the front headrests.

On the outside of the Wrangler, it’s all Rugged Ridge, from the vented hood and flat fender flares, to the windshield light bar and rock sliders. The body is wrapped in 3M Matte Military Green, and the whole thing has a presence worthy of the man whose memory it honors. Semper Fi.
