Trackhawk Throws Down With Durango Hellcat & Urus
Trackhawk takes on its fellow Hellcat-powered SUV counterpart and the snarling Lamborghini Urus that costs over twice as much.
It’s no secret that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a brute force of an SUV. With 707 horsepower and a neck-snapping 0-60 sprint in just 3.5 seconds, it certainly is no joke. Recently, though, another FCA SUV had the beautiful 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi rammed under its hood in the form of the Durango Hellcat. Though, the Durango gets a little bit of extra heat at 710 horsepower. Folks have wondered what the outcome of putting them head to head might be, and now we’ve got an answer. Just for fun, too, a Lamborghini Urus joins the party with its lowly 650 horsepower twin-turbocharged V8.
This amazing race comes thanks to the nice folks over at the Throttle House Youtube channel. Hosts James Engelsman and Thomas Holland lineup the Hellcat-powered monsters alongside Kartson Chong as he pilots the nearly quarter-million-dollar Italian dream machine. Who will come out on top?
Right off the bat, both Holland and Engelsman have their doubts about the American brutes. It’s easy to see why, too. Despite performance figures on paper, it’s just hard to imagine something faster than a Lamborghini strictly on their heritage.
“I think that Karston, with his legendary incredible focus, is going to roast us in the Urus,” says Holland
“Peak torque is available lower than in the Trackhawk, and I’ve been knocking out 3.4 second to sixties on the regular. So, I’m just hoping I can stay in the game,” says Engelsman
The Biggest Prevails
Stay in the game he did! In fact, he won it. Despite the Durango being the heaviest on paper, it put a substantial gap on the Lamborghini and safely edged out the Trackhawk.
To level the playing field a bit, they followed this with another drag race without launch control.
Not the outcome Trackhawk Fans Would Want
Unfortunately for the Trackhawk and the Lamborghini, this did not save them either. Though the results were a bit closer for the two FCA monsters, the Durango still finished first. While the Trackhawk wasn’t far behind, the Urus had nearly as big a gap as you’ll find in its MSRP relative to the Mopar masters.
One final attempt for reconciliation is offered with a roll race between the three powerhouse SUVs. The Durango does not get a perfect three for three as the Lamborghini finally struts its stuff, quickly walking away from both it and the Trackhawk during the roll race. However, the Trackhawk remains safely in second throughout all three races, having kept it close to the winner across the board.
Though the Trackhawk did not take the lead on any counts, you still cannot argue the absolute insanity that both it and the Durango are. If you told any car enthusiast as recently as ten years ago they’d be watching a Dodge Durango, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee stomp a Lamborghini from a dig, they’d likely call you nuts. Either way, it made for a great video, and you should definitely check it out below!
