Too Much Stuff: Bare Bone Might Be Best Way to Hit the Trail
Maybe it is true: the less the better.
When tackling that off-road terrain, a recent Four Wheeler story could have a point when it mentions that some Jeep owners tend to tug along too much extra weight to really enjoy the experience.
For example, the writer of the story, John Cappa, suggests finding another place to store that spare tire other than the bumper, considering that “99.999 percent” of bumper-mounted spare tire carriers rattle.
Hey, those are Cappa’s stats not mine. But point taken – the less of that stuff you have to deal with on the trail, the more fun you’ll have on the adventure. The Four Wheeler writer also suggests buying a steel Tuffy Security lock box to help store some of that other rattling stuff you may need on the trail.
Cappa also advises getting rid of those radios in your Jeep.
“Nobody wants to hear you relive your glory days in the woods by blasting Ronnie James Dio or Ozzy Osborne through Crutchfield wakeboard tower boat speakers clamped to your rollcage. The novelty of the speakers easily bolting to your ‘cage was cool when you were 18, you’re an adult now. Dio is dead and Ozzy is out of his mind,” writes Cappa.
Yeah, he’s pretty funny.
Cappa goes on to suggest upgrading to something like a digital media receiver with built-in Bluetooth, while keeping your music down when others are around.
It all sounds like solid advice to me, as long as you’re not stripping down a later model Jeep you’ve spent a lot of money on for some of those plush amenities.
