1958 Jeep FC-170

This incredible 1958 Jeep FC-170 was built by Daystar employees afterhours in their own shop.

The FC series of Jeeps were built as a heavier duty, working vehicle than some of the other options at the time. They were produced for about a decade from the mid-1950s until the mid-1960s and they came in various configurations. They are all cool. Seeing any of them on the road today is a real treat. But this custom 1958 Jeep FC-170 might be the coolest of them all. It was featured at the SEMA 2014 show. It has been on several off-road magazine covers. The Jeep is simply jaw dropping. And now it can be yours. This Jeep is lot #1274.1 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottdale auction. But bring your checkbook because it is scheduled to cross the block on ‘big money Saturday’ when all the top tier vehicles are auctioned.

This week’s “Throwback Thursday” is all about this custom 1958 Jeep FC-170. And we could easily spend an entire Thursday talking about this build. It was built by the folks at Daystar in Arizona. If you are not familiar with Daystar, they are known for their suspension and other off-road related parts and accessories. They are not known for building custom Jeeps. However, when they decided that they wanted to bring a vehicle to SEMA in 2014 to show off some of their products they thought it would be best to build it themselves. So, the Jeep you see here was built by Daystar employees after hours in their shop. Not a bad effort if you ask us.

Build Highlights

Jeep FC-170

Again, we can spend an entire day talking about this incredible build, but here are some of the highlights. It is powered by a 5.7L Hemi V8 that plays lovely sounds thanks to the custom MagnaFlow exhaust. G2 axles are on this Jeep that is also equipped with air lockers from ARB. Keep digging and you will find an NV241 transfer case from a JK. The suspension is naturally from Daystar. Baer provides the big brakes. The Jeep is covered in a lovely 3-stage custom Metallic Viper Green paint with Pearlescent Cream highlights. This is all terrific, but the real star of the show is of course the Mattracks 88 Series tracks. Both the wheels and tires and Mattracks are included in the sale.

The Result

Interior

To say this build was a hit would be an understatement. Not only did it land on magazine covers and wow the crowd at SEMA 2014. This Jeep spent almost two years at the Petersen Museum in the Extreme Conditions exhibit. Is there higher praise than that? You build anything that ends up in the Petersen Museum and you have built a masterpiece. How often do you get a chance to own something that was on display at that museum? Well, here is your chance.

The Auction

Rear

The custom 1958 Jeep FC-170 will be sold at Barrett-Jackson. It is being offered at no reserve, so someone is going to be driving home in this thing. Or at least loading it up on a trailer to take home. It is a wonderful opportunity, but we just hope that it doesn’t get locked away in a private collection. We understand that it will likely not be a daily driver. But a build like this deserves to be seen. Hopefully the new owner understands that and at least drives it a bit and takes it around to various shows. The best part of owning a cool Jeep is sharing it with the Jeep community. And we can’t think of a cooler Jeep to share than this one.
