2002 Jeep TJ

This 2002 Jeep TJ is used for both daily driver and weekend fun duties and has modifications that will help it excel at both.

If you go to an event like SEMA and you will see all sorts of crazy Jeep builds and concepts. And they are very cool and fun to drool over. But the reality is most people can’t afford or just don’t want such extreme builds. A simple Jeep TJ with perhaps some modifications can be the perfect ride for those that want the Jeep life but don’t feel the need to go overboard. This 2002 Jeep TJ is a textbook example of that. The owner modified it to suit his taste. He made it a bit more capable, but he also made it more reliable and comfortable as well. Afterall this Jeep is not just for shows or extreme rock crawling competitions. This little TJ is also used as a daily driver.

This week’s “Throwback Thursday” is all about this 2002 Jeep TJ. It was recently featured on the ExtremeTerrain Customer Builds series. The owner is a gentleman named Todd and he explains all of his modifications in the video that was posted on the ExtremeTerrain.com YouTube channel. We love to feature these builds from time to time because they not only can inspire other Jeep owners but because all the parts are easily accessible. If you want to checkout the entire build list all you need to do is click HERE. Then you can order any part that you like for your own Jeep.

Form and Function

This 2002 Jeep TJ has over 227,000 miles on it. It is not a garage queen. Todd still uses it as a daily driver so extreme modifications were not in the equation. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay stock. There are some mods that are not overly exciting but functional, nonetheless. Such as the cargo and floor mats that protect the new carpeting that was installed. There is also the mesh top that keeps the sun from beating down on the occupants of the Jeep. Upping the fun quotient, a bit is an MBRP cat-back exhaust, Barricade Trail Force HD front and Barricade Classic rear bumpers. And the list goes on. There are 41 total modifications listed for this Jeep.

Use

2002 Jeep TJ

It is true that Todd uses his 2002 Jeep TJ as a daily driver. But he still does Jeep stuff with it. It has been to several Jeep events and parades. He and his wife and their dog also take it out on the weekends to just get away for a bit and enjoy the Jeep life. This little Jeep is built perfectly to accommodate both of these functions. So, if you have a Jeep as an only vehicle this TJ is proof that it can do everything that you can reasonably throw at it.

Future Plans

Nobody can just leave a Jeep alone, right? Builds are never complete. But the immediate future plans for this Jeep are more around maintenance than anything else. With nearly a quarter million miles covered; the original engine is getting a little tired. So, a rebuild is in the future. And even though it looks pretty good in the video Todd is planning to have the Jeep repainted as well. However, like many Jeep owners there is one thing that Todd never plans to do. And that is to sell this Jeep. He has made it his own and it will likely become a family heirloom. We don’t have any formal statistics to back this up, but we can’t think of any other vehicle that gets passed down for generations quite like a Jeep. Checkout the video and get started on an heirloom of your own.
