Even Santa Claus approves of this 1981 CJ-8 Scrambler with a V8 engine and upgraded axles that make it the perfect 4-wheel-drive sleigh.

Christmas is almost here. That means Santa Claus is busy loading up his sleigh with presents for all the good girls and boys. We might not know the exact make and model of the sleigh that is used on Christmas Eve. But this 1981 CJ-8 Scrambler could do the job if needed. The green, red and orange paint scheme helps but there is much more that goes into making this a perfect 4-wheel-drive sleigh. It has an upgraded V8 engine. The transfer case, axles, transmission, wheels, tires, brakes and so on have all been upgraded as well. This Scrambler can definitely get through the rough stuff.

This week’s “Throwback Thursday” is all about this 1981 CJ-8 Scrambler. It was featured recently on the WFO Concepts YouTube channel. In the video we are treated to a full walkaround of the Jeep and everything that makes it special. And there is a lot that makes it special. But nothing is over the top or outrageous. It is tastefully modified and something that Santa would not be embarrassed to be seen in.

Under the Hood

Chevy 350

The engine is a Chevy 350 TBI V8 that likely came from a Silverado pickup truck. These engines make decent power and are known for being extremely reliable. And while that may be the main attraction under the hood there is a lot more going on. There are new wiring harnesses and fuel lines. The transmission is a General Motors SM465 unit running to a Dana 300 twin stick transfer case. You will also be able to spot the Hydroboost brake system under the hood. Also tucked away near the battery is the onboard air compressor. But the most fun piece is probably the PA speaker that can be used with the CB radio.

Other Bits

Interior

The CJ-8 Scrambler has a 1-inch body lift along with 2.5-inch spring under springs. The front axle is a Wagoneer Dana 44, and the rear is a Dana 60. The wheels are 17-inches wrapped with 37-inch tires. Keeping the elements at bay is a simple bikini top. It looks better than a standard hardtop and gives the Jeep more of that sleigh look. A set of KC lights help to light the way.

Santa Likes It

1981 CJ8 Scrambler

This 1981 CJ-8 Scrambler has the Santa seal of approval. It has all the equipment he needs to get through any nasty weather. There is plenty of space for himself and toys in the back. And the Scrambler can easily smoke the rear tires while Santa enjoys a fresh cold one after a long night. Kids if you are watching this at home, this is not the real Santa. For you parents watching this at home. How much fun is this Jeep build? It is a great big tire Jeep build that can be practical and fun all year long.
