Take a Video Tour of ICON’s Final CJ3B, aka ‘The Dog’
You might know ICON 4×4 Design for its work on vehicles like the FJ, the Bronco, the Land Cruiser, or the Power Wagon, but it’s worth remembering they took a turn with the old Jeep Willys, as well.
To ICON’s Jonathan Ward, the Willys Jeep “exemplified the values of longevity, simplicity, and durability. They’re really, I often say, the mechanical equivalent to a really good pair of flip flops.”
So, ICON took the flip flops and flipped it into a sick resto-mod named the CJ3B, aka “The Dog.”
There are plenty of interesting things done to this build, which has a Rocky Mountain Gray paint with a Volcanic Black windshield frame. It has a 270-lb-ft Volkswagen TDI powertrain sitting in the engine bay, the axles are Dana 44s, it has 4-wheel disc brakes, ARB locking differential, coilover suspension with Fox Racing shocks and Eibach coils, ceramic-coated exhaust, hidden gun safe, Clarion audio system, bikini top made from Mercedes canvas, and LED lighting.
Interestingly and sadly enough, this will likely be the last CJ3B made, according to Ward, because of the complexity of the build. He said in the time it took to create one of these, the shop could probably have built three FJs or two Broncos. He even admits that makes the pricing too high.
Tip of the hat to this one, guys. It’s a winner.
