Social Media Helped Reunite a Family with Stolen Jeep
After a social media post was made, an officer’s widow was reunited with her Jeep Wrangler after being stolen.
After Sarah Rohrer lost her husband Patrick in the line of duty in 2018, she bought a purple Wrangler to honor him. His favorite color was purple being a Kansas State University alumni, and he’d always wanted a Jeep Wrangler.
Her husband and his colleague Deputy Theresa King were unfortunately killed on duty while escorting a prisoner to the county’s courthouse.
“There was only one year the purple jeep was made, which was 2017, and we were able to find one locally and so we got it,” Sarah told Kansas City’s news station KMBC. “We would decorate it for holidays, for Halloween and Christmas and we would go off-roading as a family. It really helped us come together.”
The family and the Kansas City PD tried tirelessly to recover the Jeep, to no avail. Sarah posted on the Stolen KC Facebook page in hopes that someone would see it and reach out. She was elated when she was messaged about someone seeing it in the town of Independence.
“Somebody from there saw the post, was their dad who took pictures and sent it to his daughter,” said Sarah. “She messaged me and we immediately called the police and found out where it was.”
KMBC said that the vehicle was able to quickly identify the Jeep due to identifiable stickers on the Wrangler honoring her late husband, and Star Wars stickers on the side mirrors.
So far, the only damage that’s been visible to the family’s Jeep is a cracked windshield and some black paint that’s been added to the front end.
No arrest has been made for stealing the Jeep as of yet, but the Rohrer family is more than elated to get their Jeep back.
