Could the Popularity of the Jeep Wave be Fading?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, folks. But in case you hadn’t noticed, the Jeep wave is becoming a thing of the past.
Yup, no longer can you count on a passing Wrangler driver to acknowledge your bond with one of those friendly waves, which were once held so sacred among owners of the Jeep. Or at least that seems to be the sentiment expressed in a thread posted by JK Forum member, Skramer530.
“…I’ve had the JK for 5 months now, and have gotten less than ten waves returned, and then they are only from CJs, YJs, and TJs,” wrote Skramer back in 2007. “The 2 wheel drive version and 4 door version seems to have brought in a new class of buyer (you know who I mean) that just doesn’t ‘get it.'”
Skramer530 caps off his thread with a bit of a plea by saying, “Come on now, people. By buying a Jeep, you have entered into a world of uncomfortable driving, spilling your drinks, freezing your butt off, constant maintenance and upgrading, and occasionally finding yourself 20 miles from home with no top in a downpour. We are a special bunch who can live with this type of vehicle, so show your comradery!!!”
I certainly understand your frustration, Skramer, as do a few other Wrangler owners here, based on some of the 1500 or so responses to your still-active thread. Unfortunately, I’m inclined to think that it might just be another sign that some of those things that show a more personal connection are losing ground to stuff like Facebook and Instagram.
