Popularity of Forward Control Jeeps on the Rise
Look Out Car Collectors, There Seems to Be Another Jeep Working Its Way Up the Ranks as a Coveted Model.
Some of you longstanding fans of the 1957-1965 Jeep Forward Control (FC) will likely say this really isn’t big news. But what most here may not know is how much FC popularity is growing.
As highlighted in a recent Four Wheeler report, a group of 36 FC owners got together in September to launch an inaugural event held in Marengo, Illinois called the Military FC Gathering. Reportedly, the event represented the largest collection of military (M-Series) FCs congregated in one place since the ’60s, when the Navy and Marine Corps utilized FCs.
More than 130 people attended the Forward Control event, which included eight M-677 crew cab pickups, two M-678 carryalls, two rare M-679 ambulances, and one M-676 pickup. The gathering, organized by FC collector Dan Horenberger, is already in the planning stages for the 2017 event.
To further illustrate the surge in FC popularity, Jesse and Andrea Ybarra, organizers of a longtime roundup in Arizona, say they’ll be giving up oversight of their event soon, because of how much it has grown.
Yep, if you’ve been eyeing an FC, you might want to act soon, before the prices start rising in accordance with their popularity.
