Pope Francis Rolls Heavenly in a Wrangler
Just because Vatican City isn’t technically part of Italy, that doesn’t mean Pope Francis can’t have a special affinity for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Or so one might assume after seeing his rides of choice for this week’s big U.S. visit.
As you can see in the photos, not only is Pope Francis rocking the custom Wrangler Popemobile, which we discussed earlier, but he’s also being ushered around America in the ever sporty, yet also modest, Fiat 500L.
Perhaps he heard about the great deals you can get on the 500 these days and just wanted to test drive one?
Regardless, it’s easy to see the Pope knows a thing or two about cars, as His Holiness’s custom Wrangler most certainly attests. Just look at that fly ride. So stately, yet demure. So much classier than the old Mercedes-Benz 460 Pullman 1930, the first official Papal vehicle. Although perhaps not quite as stately as when the Pope used to sit in a throne and get carried around town by “Vatican footmen,” as Bold Ride calls them.
Here’s what the Detroit Free Press has to say about the latest Popemobile:
“The white Wrangler used by the pope has a glass-front roof with open sides, allowing the popular pontiff greater proximity to his flock than Popemobiles of the past, which were typically closed, bulletproof affairs.”
That’s just the way Pope Francis rolls: closer to his flock. A man of the people, rolling heavenly in our favorite ride.
