Next-gen Wrangler to remain body-on-frame, says news source
You might want to keep that popcorn coming because the changes on this one are more entertaining to keep up with than a Bourne Identity movie.
Less than a few weeks after it seemed that the Wrangler could be switching to a unibody aluminum frame, there’s news that our beloved SUV will remain body-on-frame, according to an Automotive News report.
Automotive News says it gained its insight from sources inside and outside Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, with reports that the new Wrangler, due in 2017, might still have an aluminum body.
In typical fashion, Chrysler isn’t confirming or denying the report, but I’m sure it’s a sigh of relief to a lot of Jeep fans who’ve expressed concerns over whether an aluminum Wrangler could mean the death of the Jeep as we know it.
Although, personally, I wouldn’t bet the house on the news just yet. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne, who mentioned the idea of an aluminum Wrangler at the Paris Motor Show, will have the last word, and he’s being pretty mum on the topic right now.
