Jeep Wrangler Engulfed by Mysterious Fire
Jeep owner says he awoke seeing vehicle engulfed in flames apparently stemming from some kind of electrical malfunction.
We’ll file this one right in the folder titled “mysterious” with an asterisk labeled “scary” as well.
Though we doubt either title captures the feelings of how the owner of this Wrangler felt when he woke up seeing his Jeep engulfed in flames. According to TribLive.com, the fire happened around 1 a.m. in the morning and destroyed another vehicle in addition to the Jeep Wrangler.
The report states that it took nearly two hours for firefighters to get the flames under control due to gasoline and burning magnesium parts from the engine. Fortunately, it sounds like nobody was injured during the incident.
The culprit? Apparently, an electrical malfunction, according to TribLive.com. Though, the report doesn’t include specific details on what the malfunction exactly entailed. Of course, the most obvious question with an incident like this becomes whether or not it might be tied to any other similar occurrences.
A quick look into the issue doesn’t turn up any recent cases of Wranglers catching on fire. But there certainly have been some concerns raised with some models of the Jeep catching on fire over the past few years.
In fact, a 2015 ABC Action News report found 50-fire connected complaints with Wranglers from 2011 to 2015. The story specific details the incident of one Jeep couple who first experienced the brake going out in their Wrangler just as flames started shooting through the vehicle’s dash.
According to the ABC news source, that particular case was deemed inclusive by an investigator for the carmaker.
