Throwback Thursday: MotorWeek’s Retro Review of the 1997 Wrangler TJ

For years, the most popular SUV to go off-roading has been the Jeep Wrangler. It’s about as American as Betsy Ross eating apple pie. And over the years, the overall SUV hasn’t really changed all that much from its original military persona.

That said, the Jeep Wrangler has evolved very much in the same way that the Porsche 911 has evolved, through gradual steps. With the upcoming Jeep Wrangler potentially being a wild departure from the current and past Wranglers, we thought we’d celebrate Throwback Thursday with this Retro Review from the guys over at MotorWeek.

In the clip, the incomparable John Davis tackles the 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ and puts it through the paces, not only off-roading, but also, for some unknown reason, he takes the Wrangler onto the drag strip too.

It’s a good thing we will have these for the future since we’re most likely in for a revolution with Jeep’s next Wrangler.
