‘Dirt Every Day’ Details 21,000-Mile Ultimate Jeep Adventure
Looking for the ultimate off-road adventure for you and a few friends? Well, this one certainly fits the bill, and then some.
Motor Trend’s “Dirt Every Day” video below details a 1979 excursion taken by Jeep lifestyle pioneer, Mark Smith. Smith and a group of friends drove early CJ7s from the tip of South America all the way to Alaska in what was known as the American Expeditions.
Driving Smith’s old Jeep from the Expeditions, Fred Williams, the host of “Dirt Every Day,” details the epic journey while mixing in footage of a documentary film that captured the group as they drove matching orange stock CJ7s across the American continents.
The total excursion covered 21,000 miles including Darien Gap, a stretch of nearly 200 miles in South America that almost no vehicles had ever crossed, except a major British Army Expedition that endured a few fatalities on the drive.
It’s said that one day’s progress for Smith’s group in the dreaded jungle could equate to moving only 500 feet. It took them 31 days to complete the roughly 200 mile stretch, which is still believed to be some of the toughest off-road terrain in the world.
