Hooniverse Swaps Intake Manifold Gasket on a Grand Wagoneer
When you own something old and amazing with a big engine, you are going to need to wrench on it eventually. For each and every machine out there, that wrenching may be something easy, but it may also be obscenely difficult for the common shade tree mechanic. Thankfully we now have the power of the Internet, and the brave souls that take time to create how-to videos for all of us who are wading into an underhood battle for the first time.
Speaking of brave souls, the crazy kids over at The Hooniverse are running a series of videos called Hooniverse Garage, and on this occasion, they are walking us through the process of changing the intake gasket on the Dauntless 350 engine hiding under the long hood of a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I myself have experience with this engine, and it can be a beast to work on, depending on what project you are tackling. The clip itself is quick, it’s only six minutes long, so not a real step-by-step training video. But the guys do a good job of providing an overview of each major step. They also provide a few helpful little hints that will make your life a bit easier.
If this was my job, I still would have done a few things differently, but overall it’s a great video, and if you happen to own something like an old Grand Wagoneer, this is a project that you will be forced to tackle eventually, so it wouldn’t hurt you to get a head start on learning the right steps and processes.
