Kentucky Jeep Owners Attempt to Break a New Record

Jeep owners in Kentucky attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for most Jeeps in a parade.

On June 25, Kentucky Jeep owners were adamant about breaking the current world record for most Jeeps in a parade. Currently, the Guinness World Record states that 2,420 Jeeps earned that title during the 2015 Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival. Therefore, Hollerwood Adventure Park sponsored an event hoping to meet or exceed 2,500 vehicles.

There were so many Jeeps attempting to be a part of the record breaking, that one of the busiest main roads in the Red River Gorge was closed for several hours. Though, law enforcement and first responder vehicles were present and controlling traffic. Thankfully no injuries or accidents occurred during the official attempt, but Powell County officials were prepared.

An official vehicle count has yet to be announced, but participants and onlookers alike are very hopeful the record was successfully bested. The parade itself only lasted for two miles between Stanton and Clay City, but the sheer amount of vehicles that showed was awe inspiring. More Jeeps would likely have been a part of the action, though the Hollerwood Park made it very clear that all drivers must have a valid license and all vehicles must be street legal.

This isn’t the first Jeep-centric event of this year that beat official records. In April, Jeep Beach hosted at Daytona International Raceway broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest Jeep parade with 1,846 Jeeps. Beforehand, the record was only 1,106 Jeeps back in 2011 at the Bantam Jeep Festival.

At the end of the parade, which was located at the Kentucky Dragway, was the River Bottoms Festival — which featured live music, several food and merchandise vendors, cornhole tournaments, dessert trucks and more. Regardless of whether or not the record was broken, thousands of Jeep owners relished in the attempt with plenty of Jeep fans alongside them.
