2012 Jeep Wrangler

Wrangler has high mileage, but it is reasonably priced considering the list of upgrades.

Part of the allure of the Jeep Wrangler is the nearly-endless aftermarket. We don’t see many stock JKs on the road because there are so many options to upgrade the vehicle inside and out. Whether you want your Wrangler to have a unique look, improved performance or both, there are scores of companies that offer modifications for the legendary Jeep.

The problem is that not everyone who wants a modified Jeep Wrangler knows which brands to buy when upgrading. Fortunately, forum member Twanger posted a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited in the JK-Forum Marketplace that has been modified in all of the key places to improve the look and performance, making this the perfect JK for off-road excursions.

Lifted Wrangler Introduction

When the OP first posted this 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for sale, the following information was provided.

2012 Jeep Wrangler

Well maintained and exceptionally built. There is lots of money spent on the Jeep and it shows. The miles are high (140k) but I’ve had no issues with the Jeep. I put over 6k miles on it just over summer with my remote mountain camping trips and never had any issues. The lift kit was fully rebuilt last winter with all new bushings. The automatic transmission is fairly new, less than 20k miles on it.

Teraflex long arm 4″ LCG kit
-Teraflex front d44 axle
-5.38 gears
-Front & Rear lockers
-Rock sliders
-Full undercarriage skid plate kit
-22″ rims with 37″ tires, 75% tread with new spare
-Hardtop, freedom top, soft top, bikini top
-Amazing audio: double din head unit, 2 amps, 1 subwoofer, backup camera, rear headset TVs. Full eclipse audio replacement for all stock speakers. Around $3k.
-Aftermarket front bumper with lights and Warn winch
Viper alarm and remote start

The suspension, axles, gears, lockers, sliders and skid plate all make this Wrangler more formidable in rough conditions. The 22-inch wheels don’t seem ideal for off-roading, but the 37-inch tires surely make up for that. The three different tops give the buyer options for different weather conditions and the sound system will be appreciated all year long. Really, this Wrangler is ready for rough off-road conditions, but it can still be driven daily.

High Mileage Concerns

This 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was posted for sale back on December 2 and based on the OP’s posted on December 17, there hadn’t been any hits yet. The seller wonders if the mileage – 140,000 miles – is scaring people off, but it is pointed out that it is priced competitively.

We checked Kelley Blue Book and a standard 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sport with basic options and 140,000 miles has an average private party value of roughly $16,250. This modified Jeep is listed for $19,000, so it is a few thousand over book value, but it has far more than that in aftermarket upgrades.

The price might concern some prospective buyers, but you will be hard pressed to find a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with these upgrades for this price in such clean condition. You can buy a stock Jeep for less, but this is a great buy for anyone who wants a JK that has already been outfitted with popular upgrades.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
