Wrangler Custom Top

Wrangler hard top has been trimmed to offer rear-seat cover with open-air comfort.

The Jeep Wrangler offers open-air cruising like no other vehicle sold in the United States. Not only can you remove the top altogether, but there are a variety of roof options that offering varying levels of protection against the elements. You can order the painted hard top with the Freedom panels or you can get a soft top, which offers more options, including having the rear open while still having cover over the seats. The problem with that approach is that the soft top can create some flapping noise at speed.

Fortunately, “Urban Assault Vehicle” posted his custom JK Wrangler Unlimited hard top for sale in the JK-Forum Marketplace. This roof treatment has been trimmed to leave the cargo area open while still covering the rear seats, providing the air flow of the soft top with the protection and finish of the hard top.

Wrangler Custom Hard Top Introduction

When the OP posted his custom Wrangler JKU hard top for sale, he included the brief description.

I have a custom Safari top made from a damaged hardtop for a JKU. It is painted Deep Water Blue. Im asking $300 Or best offer. Front Freedom panels are not included. Works great with doors on or off. None of that softop flutter. I am located in Monroe New Jersey. Wont ship (sorry) Thanks for looking.

As you can see, this custom hard top has been cut just behind the C-pillar. The pillar portion has been retained, as has the actual roof portion that covers the rear seat. Unfortunately, there is no rear view, so we don’t know what this top looks like from the rear, but if you look through the rear windows, you can see some bright light from the rear, suggesting that the back if completely open.

Wrangler Custom Top

This Wrangler JKU custom hard top offers just enough coverage to keep the rear passengers dry when driving in the rain while also providing shade from the sun.

One Little Problem…

There is only one real downside to this JKU Wrangler custom hard top; it is in New Jersey and the OP won’t ship it. That makes sense, as it would surely be a nightmare to ship safely. This means that if you love this look and you want to buy it for your Jeep, you will need to travel to the Jersey to pick it up.

Of course, it would also need to be painted if your Wrangler isn’t Deep Water Blue, but this top might look good on a white vehicle and on some other non-matching colors. Then again, in paying just $300 for this custom top, there is some room left in the budget to paint it or wrap it.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
