JK-Forum is a happening place with a lot of people on the forum. Many of the folks who post on it are you hardcore, life-long Jeep owners who know how to take care of yourselves out in the wild.

However, given how large JK-Forum is, I know there are some of you out there who are new to the Jeep brand. You might have just recently purchased your first Jeep and be eager to take it on an adventure through nature this summer – perhaps your first one. If that’s the case, take a look below at some of the gear Jeep offers to keep you safe and comfortable outdoors.

A great way to get into the wilderness in the first place is in a Trail Rated Jeep. It’s been developed to provide useful traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and word fording capabilities.

As versatile as that is, it can’t do everything for you. That’s why devices such as the $22.95 Adventure Multi-Tool come in handy. It’s got Phillips- and slotted-head screwdrivers, a bottle opener, pliers, wire cutters, and scissors, plus other features.

When it gets dark, there’s the $27.95 Burst Dual Output LED Flashlight. You can put it high-output (200 lumens) or low-output (60 lumens) mode or turn it into a strobe light. You can even use it as a makeshift tactical defense weapon, thanks to the design of its bezel.

For even more light, there’s the $36.95 High-Power Camping Lantern, which packs the power of 20 LEDs. You can hang it up at your campsite and use its built-in compass when you go exploring.

Speaking of your campsite, Jeep offers a multi-function Hiker’s Shovel for $14.95 that’ll allow you to dig, chop, saw, and hammer through things standing in the way of you setting up camp. You can do that in a $119.95 four-person Sundome Tent or…

…in the Jeep Off-Road Camper Trailer From Mopar. “Jeep® Trail and Extreme Trail campers incorporate Jeep® Wrangler’s rugged design cues, including Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels (with 5-lug by 5-inch bolt pattern to utilize most Jeep® vehicles’ spare tire), taillights, fender flares, rear bumper (Trail Edition camper only), badging and hood-tie downs,” according to Mopar.

When it’s time to head home in your Jeep, you might get stuck. The $74.95 Emergency Recovery Strap Kit is made for situations like those. It can pull 10 tons and has a 20,000-pound webbing break strength.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
