Jeep Wranglers Could be Used in Battlefields Again
We had a hunch Hendrick Dynamics was up to something when we saw all those military inspired Jeeps on display at their 2016 North American International Show booth.
The guy working the Hendrick booth at the Detroit show wasn’t willing to give up many details. But now the cat’s out of the bag.
Apparently, the North Carolina military contractor is working on a deal that could make the Wrangler a war vehicle again. The military Wrangler would be used to transport Army troops, much like the Willys MB did during World War II, according to a Detroit News report.
“We’ve got a really good opportunity to deliver to the Army a highly capable platform at a significantly reduced cost,” said Marshall Carlson, Hendrick Dynamics general manager. “One of the best points of the project is you’re starting with such an incredibly capable vehicle which comes right off the line in Toledo.”
The project is said to be in the early stages of development at this point. But if it goes though, the Jeeps would be used to move troops on the ground in situations that don’t call for heavy armored vehicles.
