Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0 Teased as Updated All-Electric Off-Roader
Revised Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0 promises to deliver some changes to last year’s electrified concept.
The 2022 Easter Jeep Safari is right around the corner, which means that we’re ready to soak in all the cool concepts and custom builds the automaker has conjured up over the last year or so. This year, it looks like we’ll be seeing a familiar one make somewhat of a return, albeit with some updates, as one single image of the Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0 has been released.
“Like all good comebacks, do you stick with the proven blueprint in all of its mindboggling electrified glory or push the limits on legendary Jeep 4×4 capability and off-road development even further? Fair to say the enthusiasts already know the answer. The story continues…” the automaker said of its mysterious image.
If not for the giant script on the hood, it would be difficult to even tell what we’re looking at in this intentionally blurry, highly stylized photo. But it’s clearly the Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0, an updated version of the all-electric Magneto concept that debuted at last year’s Easter Safari. From the photo, we can see a few interesting details, including what appear to be carbon-fiber fenders as well as a rather large, bulging hood to go along with halo LED headlights.
The original Magneto concept wasn’t terribly different from its ICE-powered counterpart. In fact, it was essentially just a new Wrangler with an electric motor and four lithium-ion battery packs with 70 kWh of total capacity in place of a traditional gas powertrain, albeit with a six-speed manual transmission. The 800-volt electric motor even churns out the same power as the original 3.6-liter V6 – 285 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Everything else is basically Wrangler Rubicon, making this one of the more conventional EVs ever conceived. Most electric vehicles feature funky, unique styling that often turns off enthusiasts, but that’s the cool thing about the Magneto concept – if you look past that script on the hood and don’t notice that it’s silent as it drives around, you’d never know.
Jeep has clearly tweaked the Magneto 2.0 to make it a bit more unique, but we’ll have to wait just a little longer to find out what those tweaks look like. With any luck, they won’t go too crazy on what might very well foreshadow an actual production version of the EV Wrangler.
