Jeep Wrangler Goes on Amazing Adventure in Botswana
Lions, zebras, and rhinos are only three of the many wonders experienced in this Jeep Wrangler expedition in Africa.
Jeeps can do it all. They can cross the Rubicon, tackle the rocks of Moab, cruise the neon streets of Miami, party all day and all night on the beach, and look great park in front of a shopping center. But why stop there, though? There’s a whole big world to explore with a Jeep, after all.
That’s what Dan Grec, host of YouTube channel The Road Chose Me is doing with his overland-modified Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. His current adventure is an 80,000-mile trek around Africa, and today, his adventure takes him through Botswana.
Grec had been told repeatedly that Botswana “would be the highlight of [his] time in Africa.” The nation’s updated policies regarding wildlife protection mean he’ll see lots of elephants there than anywhere else in the southern portion of the continent.
The first major stop in Botswana brings the Wrangler through Moremi National Park, where there’s plenty of elephants, giraffes, zebras around. What has Grec’s attention more than any other animal, however, are the lions out on the prowl. He had little to worry about, though, as the lions he found were more interested in praising the sun than chasing after the zebras around them, or charging at the nearby Jeep.
After nearly hitting a couple of female lions, passing by a lake filled with hippos, and meeting a few of Geoffrey the Giraffe cousins, Grec cruises through the Okavango Delta to check out the elephants before heading out to the Kalahari desert. The “absolutely enormous desert” is also absolutely barren, with “absolutely nothing, and nobody, on the way out here.” The desert offered some magic, though, from breathtaking sunsets to awesome lightning shows.
Grec finishes his time in Botswana taking in the sight of a rhino with its child at a rhino sanctuary, whose horn he’s sure would puncture the side of his Wrangler. All in all, Grec found Botswana amazing. We think his trek around Africa is amazing, too.
