Jeep Trackhawk Reclamation Project Enters Its Final Stages of Completion
DIY paint job in a makeshift garage booth turns out better than expected on this salvaged Trackhawk project.
Rebuild projects are all the rage for YouTubers these days, for a variety of reasons. For starters, salvage vehicles are a cheap way to score an otherwise expensive vehicle. Secondly, people love to watch a wrecked vehicle brought back to life – it’s simply satisfying to see. For those doing the builds, it’s a great way to rack up views and subscribers, which equals money. And if you dig watching rebuilds as much as we do, you’ll undoubtedly love this 2018 Jeep Trackhawk project from YouTuber Goonzquad.
This project is entering its final stages of completion, which means that it’s time for the ultra-powerful SUV to receive some fresh coats of paint. Which is really one of the most satisfying stages of any rebuild, truthfully. Preparation is key with this sort of thing, so our host spends a good bit of time cleaning out the garage and the Trackhawk itself before moving on to the fun part.
It’s particularly interesting, especially for DIY’ers, to watch our host set up his garage as a makeshift paint booth. And it’s proof that you don’t have to have some expensive, hermetically sealed chamber to paint a car. “We’ve got our fan set up shooting outside, and we even threw in some paint booth filters here because both fans are going to be running at the same time,” our host says. “So no bugs, dust, or whatever from the outside gets sucked in here and lands on the paint.”
After putting together a very nice makeshift filtration system, the crew gets the Trackhawk all taped off and ready for paint. Along the way, they make a decision based on feedback from those who have watched their video series, too. “You guys wanted us to paint the the roof black, so we’re gonna go ahead with a black roof and a black wing as well,” he says.
Despite the crew’s best efforts, some bugs still get in the garage. So they decide to stop and resume work in the morning. “We could throw a base coat with there being bugs in here,” our host says. “But they land on the base coat and dry out like little fossils on there. We don’t want that because once you throw clear, you’re never gonna buff that.”
Once work resumes in the morning bug-free, however, the Goonzquad team’s persistence pays off big time. “It’s super good,” our host says. “Way better than I expected. It’s a little bit brighter than the previous red we had on here. It just looks a lot better, honestly.”
This cool Trackhawk project is nearly finished at this point. And its owners are already seeing the results of their many hours of labor. Personally, we’re just as excited as they are to see this thing finished, and we won’t have to wait long for that now.
