Jeep SRT8 Runs Down Charger at the Strip
We’re used to the off-roading aspect of the Jeep, but there’s another small, niche market that likes the absurdity of taking a 4×4 and hurling it down the strip. SRT knew this and made the wonderful SRT8 Cherokee, and seeing it in action is always a sight to behold. This time, it’s versus a Chrysler stablemate in the form of a Dodge Charger. We can’t say for sure exactly what’s been done to either car, but we know they are modified to quite an extent, given their times.
Though there’s a little, ahem, confusion at the start (exposing that the track marshal forgot his cup of coffee that morning), the race is soon underway. It’s all Jeep from start to finish. The Charger benefits from a clean launch, given its drag slicks. (By comparison, I don’t think they make drag racing rubber in the size of rim worn by the Cherokee.) That doesn’t seem to be a detriment to the Jeep’s speed though, as it holds its own upon launch and consistently pulls all the way to the finish, crossing the timer at 11.50. That may be the fastest that I’ve ever seen a set of rims that large go down a drag strip!
