Jeep Sales Take a Sharp Turn in September
Could it be true? Could Jeep sales have finally reached their peak?
We doubt it. But it does appear that Jeep sales overall have taken a pretty significant blow in September for year-over-year sales. In fact, only the Grand Cherokee and Patriot were spared in Jeep’s sales decline.
Year-to-year sales numbers fell 12 percent for the Jeep Cherokee, 13 percent for the Renegade, and 16 percent for the Compass. And the Wrangler posted a sales drop of 18 percent in September of 2016, compared to last year.
On the other hand, the Grand Cherokee posted a year-to-year sales increase of 18 percent. The Jeep Patriot, which will soon end production, jumped up 33 percent.
Analysts like Rebecca Lindland with KBB (via Autoweek) attribute part of Jeep’s sales decline to growing competition in the crossover and SUV segment. While that might be true, I’d argue that even the best players tend to have a bad game from time to time. But the sign of a true champion is measured in how you finish the season.
