Jeep Wrangler Loses Entire Top in Mud Bog Recovery

Everyone  knows you’re supposed to mount a winch to the chassis during a Jeep rescue. Looks like somebody missed that memo.

So you have a lift kit, big tires, a snorkel and all the kit needed to go through a mud bog and make it to the other side. But what if you get stuck? Do you have the right recovery tools and methods necessary to get yourself out? This Jeep Wrangler owner didn’t and now they have two halves of a Jeep to look at.

Obviously, the first problem here is being stuck in a mud bog. Big deal, right? It happens to the best of us. But it’s the recovery method used that becomes the problem. Anyone with a bit of sense knows when you mount a winch, you mount it to the chassis due to it being the strongest part of the car.

That’s why you don’t see a winch mounted on the roll bars above a Wrangler. The same goes for tow straps, and when you’re hooking something up to transport on a trailer. Roll bars are meant to keep the occupants safe. They aren’t meant for towing. However, that’s the area that was strapped up while a truck driver prepared to tug the Wrangler out from the sticky stuff.

With tires really well stuck in the mud, pulling the Jeep out from the side is the first obvious error. Pulling it from the side and from the middle is the second error. Pulling from the front or rear most point will allow just one axle to be freed at a time, and then allow the Jeep to be pulled straight. But no, not this time.

With a rather aggressive start, the body of the Jeep rips off the frame with ease, and of course, causes an uproar from the folks watching. The destruction of this fail becomes even more evident as the person holding the camera trudges through the mud
