Jeep Grand Cherokee Recalled Again Over Airbag Issue
Not to be outdone by GM, Jeep issued another recall over the new Grand Cherokee over a potential airbag issue.
According to Chrysler, the recall is subject to around 230,000 Grand Cherokees, ranging from 2014-2015 year models. Chrysler stated that during certain “extreme” maneuvers, the airbags could deploy without having been involved in an accident.
Essentially, this means that if you’re in a situation that requires quick thinking and quick movements, the airbags could deploy. So if you are swerving to avoid an accident, you could still be involved in one anyway.
What happens is that the onboard computers will deploy the airbags when side slip occurs, or on steep lateral angles, such as off-road situations.
In a twist of events, last year, the same models were recalled for airbag non-deployment. No word yet if the original recall caused this new one. However, according to Chrysler, the only thing that needs to be fixed on the Grand Cherokee is a glitch in the vehicle’s software, so it won’t take all that long for you to be back on the road. Hopefully.
