Jeep Gets Caught in Another Recall
It seems these massive auto recalls are just going to become par for the course even for the beloved Jeep nameplate.
Less than a week after announcing a recall on 2010 and 2011 Grand Cherokees that JK-Forum covered here, Chrysler is issuing another one on the 2008 Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee, according to an official Chrysler Group press release.
The latest recall, which also includes the 2008 Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300, stems from an ignition switch problem that could affect features in the vehicles like windshield wipers, defrosters, braking and airbags.
In total, the ignition recall affects 292,224 vehicles in the U.S.; 18,976 in Canada; 4,947 in Mexico; and 33,295 outside the NAFTA region.
The Chrysler Group is currently in the process of scheduling the vehicles to be fixed. In the meantime, the company is advising all customers to confirm their ignition keys are set in the “ON” position (one o’clock) after starting their vehicles.
As a precautionary measure, owners are also being told to detach their ignition keys from key rings and other keys.
If you have additional questions, you might want to call Chrysler Group’s Customer Information Center at 1 (800) 853-1403 or just swing by your local Jeep dealership to see when you can have your vehicle in.
