Jeep Email Teases Three-Row Grand Cherokee Debut

Three-Row Jeep Grand Cherokee Teaser

Jeep Grand Cherokee with three rows of seats will seemingly debut on January 7.

Inside information has been suggesting for some time now that there will eventually be a Jeep Grand Cherokee with three rows of seats. The legendary SUV has always been a two-row model while the Dodge Durango is the three-row SUV on that platform, but it seems as though a three-row version of the popular Jeep will be introduced on January 7, 2021.

Neither FCA nor the Jeep brand have offered any information on this debut, but according to MoPower.com, an email sent to select Jeep owners contains the image shown here. This particular image was posted to a Jeep Trackhawk Facebook group by Scott from JeepGarage.org. While the email does not come right out and state that Jeep is introducing a three-row Grand Cherokee, the hints provided in the email are not very subtle.

Three-Row Grand Cherokee

As you can see, the image emailed to select Jeep owners starts off by stating that the brand has some big news coming on January 7, 2021. At the bottom of the email, there is a brief message that proclaims that “the most awarded SUV ever is adding something new to the adventure – a third row”. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV ever, so there is no question as to which vehicle this is referencing. As for the third row, we cannot imagine that it could be talking about anything other than a third row of seats, so this email stops just shy of stating that there is a three-row Grand Cherokee set to be introduced on Thursday, January 7.

Three-Row Jeep Grand Cherokee Teaser

We expect that the three-row Grand Cherokee will use similar underpinnings to that of the three-row Dodge Durango. This means a slightly longer wheelbase, as the current model has a 114.8-inch wheelbase while the current Durango has 119.8 inches between the axles. The Jeep will likely have a little more overhang behind the rear wheels as well, freeing up space for the third row while still preserving a smallish cargo area.

Refreshed Interior

While the chassis and body of the three-row Jeep will be new to the Jeep lineup, the interior is likely to benefit from more than just more cubic feet and a couple extra seats. The 2021 Dodge Durango received an elaborate refresh that includes a stunning new infotainment system. We expect that, in addition to the extra rear seats, the new Grand Cherokee will have a restyled dashboard that includes the larger infotainment screen.

That is just speculation, but it seems unlikely that Jeep wouldn’t offer the best version of the available UConnect system that will fit in the dash. The system looks great and works wonderfully in the Dodge, so it seems like a sure bet to show up in the new Jeep.

We will know more on January 7. We aren’t sure exactly how the vehicle will be debuted, but FCA has successfully introduced several vehicles via streaming online video, so the company will likely go that route for the new Grand Cherokee.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
