Jeep Dealers Think the Recon, Wagoneer E-SUVs Will Be Big Hits

Jeep Recon

Recon and Wagoneer S appeared at a recent dealer meeting in Las Vegas, and the dealer reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

The EV revolution may have you a bit concerned as a Jeep enthusiast. Can a heavy vehicle jam packed with electrical components really do all the rugged activities expected from a Jeep? Sure, not having to stop for gas is nice. But when you are fording a river and those battery packs are under water will you make it to the other side? Well, we are about to find out. Stellantis, as well as just about every other automaker, is moving full speed ahead into the all-electric vehicle world. Two of the newest entries are the Jeep Recon and Jeep Wagoneer S. Details are still a bit scarce, but they are both expected to go into production in 2024. Jeep dealers can’t wait.

According to a report by INSIDEEVs the Recon and Wagoneer S concepts were shown at a dealer meeting in Las Vegas. Dealers were so excited that some former dealers are now trying to get back into the business of selling Jeeps based just on what was seen. “Automotive News reports that Las Vegas dealer Josh Towbin, who sold his previous Jeep store, is determined to get back in the business of selling Jeeps after seeing the Recon and Wagoneer S.”

“I was a fan the second I saw it. I get a vibe for a car, if it’s going to be a hit or not, just like a gut feeling” said Towbin, referring to the Jeep Recons. “I think that car is just going to be a guaranteed hit. It’s got the Jeep off-road capabilities.”

At this moment we don’t know a whole lot about the Recon. At least when it comes to the specifications such as range, horsepower, and so forth. But we do know what it will look like. And it clearly is the more off-road and Wrangler-like of the two concepts. Press photos show it with the doors off and on rugged trails.

So, this is an EV that we expect to be able to conquer the trails. And it better. A Jeep needs to be a Jeep. That means it needs to be that freedom machine. Tough, rugged, and with the ability to take you anywhere. If we won’t have a rumbling V8 or a sweet inline-six under the hood the EV unit better at least be as capable. Seeing the final specs will be interesting. But driving it on our favorite trails will be the real test.

Wagoneer S

We know a little bit more about the Wagoneer S at this point. It will of course feature all-wheel drive. But it is also expected to pack about 600 horsepower and a range of 400 miles. It is estimated to be able to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

And this vehicle is expected to be able to do some light to moderate off-roading. But what it loses in off-road ability it makes up for in luxury. This is a plush cruiser that has an interior inspired by the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer.

Verdict

Obviously, we can’t really judge a couple of concepts. But the fact that the dealers are impressed is a good sign. Those are the folks that know what will and will not sell. They are in business to make money by selling Jeeps. If they are excited, then they must feel that these Jeep EVs have what it takes to be potential stars. We will hold our final opinion until we get some seat time. But the early indications are good.
