Jeep Hack

Imagine driving your Jeep 70 mph on the highway and abruptly learning that someone else was in complete control of your vehicle from some remote location?

Well, that’s exactly what Andy Greenberg found out en route to St. Louis when his Jeep Cherokee started blasting cold air and the radio suddenly switched to a hip-hop station, as highlighted in a Wired.com report.

Yup, his Jeep had been hacked.

The good thing is Greenberg was aware someone was going to be taking control of his Jeep. He just had no idea how or when. See, Greenberg had agreed to be a test dummy for the infamous car hackers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek. After toying with the climate control and radio, the two hackers quickly popped up on the Jeep’s digital display to inform Greenberg they’d taken control of the Jeep.

Sitting ten miles away in Miller’s basement, the two proceeded to bring Greenberg’s Jeep to a crawl, telling him not to panic. They’d practically taken full control of the Cherokee.

Scary, huh?
