Jeep CEO Confirms Next Wrangler Body On Frame Construction
If you were worried that the next version of Jeep’s iconic Wrangler was going to be less capable thanks to a unibody construction, you can put that fear to rest. Speaking to Car and Driver during the 2015 New York International Auto Show, Jeep CEO Mike Manley confirmed that the new Jeep will retain the ladder frame construction.
*whew*
With any vehicle as widely loved as the Wrangler, rumors and speculation run rampant about the next version. The 2018 model year is a long way away, and that doesn’t help in keeping the rumors under control. Thankfully, Manley (who has the perfect name for running Jeep) was able to put that particular one to rest.
So what about aluminum? Helping to feed this rumor are thoughts that in order for the new Wrangler to utilize aluminum construction, a new production facility would need to be built outside of its iconic Toledo, Ohio home.
“It can be done,” Manley told Car and Driver.
The next Wrangler could be built entirely out of 18-carat gold to match the new Edition version of the Apple Watch, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Presumably, they’ve looked at it, but they haven’t confirmed how much of the material they plan on incorporating into the next version.
