Jeep Reveals 10 New Models, Wagoneer Returns: Motor1
Besides Wagoneer’s epic return, battery power will play a key role in Jeep’s product planning future.
The future of Jeep looks electric. That’s according to a new report by Motor 1, which states that by 2022, at least four battery-powered off-road vehicles will be on offer through your local Jeep dealership. Jeep has also announced that their lineup will include other new models – two new models every year – with a total of 10 PHEV hybrids alongside the quartet of electric off-roaders.
One of the biggest pieces of news for us was that an all-electric Wrangler will be rolled out sometime soon. It’ll be the most substantial evolution to the Wrangler that we can really think of to date, but also has the potential to remain just as, if not more capable off-road as the current models.
A return of the Wagoneer nameplate is also quite enticing, which will be slated to be a premier or flagship model for Jeep. At the other end of the showroom will be a new yet-to-be-named model to go under the Renegade. Ultimately Jeep hopes that with a small CUV, a Wagoneer, and everything in between, they will have 100 percent coverage of the CUV/SUV market as seen in the slide below.
Fret not if you’re worried about Jeep going soft. A new nameplate is being added to the other “hawks” in the lineup, with “Desert Hawk” to join Trailhawk and Trackhawk. Beloved supercharged V8 power isn’t going anywhere, rather it’s FCA’s plan to totally saturate the market with a name that’s synonymous with the very origins of this type of vehicle itself.
Other changes in the Jeep lineup will be equally significant, as FCA has shifted their focus towards CUVs, SUVs and pickups. The Renegade, Compass and Cherokee will see a significant refresh, but with showroom additions including an entry-level three-row SUV, and a mid-size three-row SUV. In all, it will give Jeep one of the most thorough SUV lineups of any manufacturer.
