How-To Tuesday: Replace Those Leaky Rear Axle Seals
A leaky rear axle could happen to anyone at almost any time. You tend to see this issue crop up the harder you drive. The next step is to figure out how to replace that bad seal. This particular fix isn’t as glamorous as some of the other items we have discussed in the past, but when it comes to the drive-ability of your Jeep, and more importantly, the safety, this DIY is a must do.
Our great tech folks have banded together to help us all out. I think it’s safe to say that this repair isn’t likely one that you walked through with dad for fun one weekend while growing up. I know that’s certainly true for me. So this week’s How-To Tuesday article goes through, step by step, how to make this repair happen. Sometimes I wonder if the guys who write the tech articles sit around and chuckle at our inability to see these repairs as “moderately difficult,” because I look at this one and feel a cold sweat roll over my body.
Once I took the time to read through the article though, breaking the details down in a step-by-step process helped me to compartmentalize and envision everything. I’m not going to sit here and tell you how easy it will be for you to do this at home on your JK — I would imagine that it would take me easily twice as long as the article says — but the cost savings should be worth the time and effort.
