Work-in-progress 2016 Wrangler, built on the most off-road capable edition from the factory, boasts extensive parts list.

One of the best parts of owning a Jeep is being able to take your ride anywhere without having to do a thing to it. From the neon lights of the big city nightlife, to the stars of the Milky Way floating above Moab, you and your Jeep can experience all the world has to offer.

That said, it shouldn’t stop anyone from getting more from their Jeep, even if their Jeep is the hardest rock machine already from the factory. Such is the case with Steven Talley of Expedition Builds and his 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock Edition. Talley is in the process of building up his Jeep into the trailbeater he envisions it to be, and is chronicling the process on his blog.

“Here’s how it started, I bought a brand new 2016 Wrangler Hard Rock,” wrote Talley. “I chose the Hard Rock model for the following reasons: Dana 44 front and rear axles, 4.10 gears, factory skids, factory rock rails, 4:1 low-range transfer case, heat-reduction hood, electronic locking axles and electronic sway bar disconnect. The Hard Rock edition was the most trail worthy Jeep you could spec from the factory. It provided an exceptional platform on which to build.”

It wouldn’t be his first time hanging with a Hard Rock Wrangler, as one had followed Talley on his first off-roading excursion in Moab years before.

While his Jeep at the time had been lifted to handle Fins & Things Trail, the Hard Rock handled the steep bits and big drops with ease straight from the factory, no mods needed. As he puts it best, “that Trail Rated badge on the side really does stand for something!”

Talley has an extensive build list for his Hard Rock Wrangler, which he says will change over time as his build continues to evolve. That includes a 3.5-inch lift, steering damper, upgraded brakes and pads, a set of 17-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch tires, a big winch to pull him or someone else out of trouble, plenty of protection under his rig, and so much more. We look forward to seeing where he goes with his special build.
