Jeep of the Month

Customized 2008 JK appears ready to tackle the trails or the beach while simultaneously looking fantastic.

Customization is what sets the Wrangler apart from other vehicles. Want a Jeep for the beach? Sure, why not? How about a crazy off-road crawler? No problem. What about a cool street cruising JK Wrangler? That’s entirely possible as well. And if you want something that embodies all of those qualities you can do that too.

JK-Forum’s Featured Ride of the Month represents one of those all-around Wranglers that can do pretty much anything. Forum member Steven Strack aka in the JK-Forums as “Hornetman” outfitted his JK Wrangler with some pretty nifty mods that improve both form and function. It appears his fellow members felt the same about his Jeep too, as he won the contest with a commanding 58 percent of the vote.

After seeing how awesome Stack’s Keep is, we knew we had to reach out to get some more details on this incredible machine.

JK-FORUM: Your Jeep has had a ton of work done to it. What modification was the most satisfying?

STEVEN STRACK: I have taken my time over the past eight years doing what other Jeep owners have done: selected lift, added tires, bumpers, winch, armor, etcetera. My last addition was adding the MetalCloak Overlander Fenders, trimming the Hooke Fender Liners so that I can adjust the new Falcon Shocks, which is by far is the most satisfying addition.

‘I just love to wheel, doesn’t matter where it is. I’m happy as long as I’m driving, although I would like to hit some trails in Kentucky or Tennessee.’

Having won 58% of the vote, does it feel good to know other hardcore Jeep enthusiasts like your taste in custom Jeeps?

I appreciate other people complimenting my Jeep. I’m often asked–while driving down the road–questions regarding my Jeep. Just this afternoon was another example when pulling up to a light and was asked about my Jeep by a guy driving a Dodge Ram who had just purchased a Jeep for his wife, and he really liked the stance of my Jeep.

Have the goals of the build changed at all since you started modifying your Jeep? Is there anything you would have done differently?

Done differently, yes. I just have a 2.5-inch Teraflex and if I had to do it over I would have gone probably with the MetalCloak 3.5-inch Game Changer. Down the road, I may get another Jeep and build a little differently, but at this point, I have invested so much in this one. I just need to finish a few things. But, you know, it will never end.

I’m already thinking about updating my front bumper and winch and adding new control arms. I’m thinking MetalCloak Control Arms are next. I was going to go with the Alpine Control Arms but the more I’m reading, I’m thinking MC will work best for me. I’m also presently working on a wrap-around to get rid of my full soft top to work with my Diabolical Slipstream. Hoping to post some pics up soon if it comes out the way I envision it.

If you could wheel your Jeep anywhere in the world, where would you take it?

I just love to wheel, doesn’t matter where it is. I’m happy as long as I’m driving, although I would like to hit some trails in Kentucky or Tennessee; out west is too far for my ’08 unless I have a lot of off time.
