Flowmaster’s New Exhaust for Gladiator Brings the Thunder
Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back system gives the 3.6-liter V6 in the Jeep Gladiator the sound of a champion for all to hear.
It was just a few months ago Jeep returned to the truck scene after nearly 30 years of being away with the coolest rig around, the Gladiator. While a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel turbo-diesel V6 will be available in the middle of 2020, all we have for the moment is the classic 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 to move the corners over every obstacle in your way.
And while the Pentastar V6’s 285 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque are more than respectable, its sound may not be as commanding as some would like. Enter Flowmaster and its newest cat-back upgrade for the Gladiator, the American Thunder.
The new cat-back exhaust system immediately gives your Gladiator’s V6 a lot of bass, turning a high-pitched growl into a thunderous roar. The secret sauce there is the Super 44 muffler, connected to the Pentastar through a three-inch inlet tube at the header. The sound exits the other side through a 2.5-inch, mandrel-bent dual tailpipe.
The deep roar, which can be heard quite well inside with the doors and roof panels installed, leaves the Gladiator behind through a pair of polished 3.5-inch stainless steel tips. Flowmaster says the Y-pipe was routed to clear the spare tire underneath the truck’s bed, with each pipe exiting from the sides so that you don’t douse your trailer in exhaust fumes.
Acceleration off the line also sounds wonderful with the Flowmaster exhaust installed, transforming the Gladiator into a road warrior. At cruising speed, everyone will you coming before you pass them by on the highway, confusing one and all as they hear a sports car coming from Jeep’s big truck.
Meanwhile, you won’t need the stereo system with the exhaust, as the new exhaust provides all the music anyone would need while driving down the road on their next adventure in the great outdoors.
The Flowmaster exhaust attaches to the Gladiator with the stock hangers, so all you’ll have to do is make the swap. It’s not too expensive, either, as it retails for $655.95; Flowmaster has a limited-time sale on the part, dropping down to just $530. It’ll certainly have your Jeep sounding like a champion in no time.
