Fiat Chrysler Hit With Class-Action Lawsuit Over Hacking

It doesn’t look like Jeep is going to be able to dig itself out of this hacking muck anytime soon. There’s just no simple quick-fix for clearing all this mess, even though Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) seems to be trying its best to get it rectified.

A group of car owners in Illinois and eastern Missouri have filed a federal class-action lawsuit against Jeep’s parent company, following reports of the much publicized disabling of a Cherokee after the vehicle’s infotainment system was hacked, which we covered here.

The suit, filed in a U.S. District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois, also names Harmon International Industries, the company that makes the Uconnect system, as a defendant, according to a Washington Times report.

The suit comes less than two weeks after Jeep recalled 1.4 million vehicles because of the hacking situation. But clearly that was little consolation for some.

My guess, though, is that unless these car owners have some kind of hardcore evidence of something that’s not been reported yet, this lawsuit may just get stuck in the mud.
