Ferrari F40 Pretends it’s a Jeep
I am adding this to the list of the 10 coolest things I have ever seen.
It’s obvious that Jeeps are so amazing because you can take them anywhere, and because they can be taken anywhere, they become more than just a mode of transportation — they become a trusty sidekick you’re compelled to consider a friend.
On this level, Jeeps outperform supercars 100 to one. Don’t even get me started on the score when it comes to supercars that crash into Jeeps.
However, these photos demonstrate that perhaps the score for supercars has just been elevated.
Let’s get back to why this amazing set of photos from VWVortex ranks in my top 10. Two weekends ago I got to drive a Ferrari 458 Italia, and while it was by far the best car I have ever driven — by far even over a car like the Audi R8 V10 plus Coupe quattro S tronic — it made me resent Ferraris even more. I was disenchanted by how misbehaved the 458 Italia was when it was being driven in a civilized manner. It was sensational on the racetrack, but when I was driving it without my foot to the floor, it was insufferable — as if it was too good to go slow. That really speaks to the pretentiousness of Ferraris.
But seeing these photos makes me resent Ferraris a little less. Here we have what I think is the best Ferrari ever constructed, the F40, pretending to be a Jeep. These guys have figured out a way to make a Ferrari less pretentious, and that’s cool. Even cooler, these dudes fried an egg on the exhaust. How’s that for a middle finger to the Ferrari cognoscenti?
If I had an F40, I would treat it the same way, pretentiousness be damned. The F40 is one of the greatest cars of all time. It deserves to be taken everywhere to remind its owner of how awesome a car can be; however, no one does this because they are too afraid.
These photos represent fearlessness; in fact, they put a foot straight up fear’s stinky ass.
