The Jeep aftermarket can be both a blessing and a curse. But that’s the way things go when you’ve got so may options when it comes to any given part or accessory. Take bumpers, for example. There are quite literally hundreds of options out there for the Jeep Wrangler, which makes choosing the right one a very time consuming and often frustrating task. But thankfully, the folks at Extreme Terrain are working hard to help make that process a little bit easier.
XT just released their newest bumper buyer’s guide, and it’s quite the handy tool. The guide breaks down your choices by model first, then by the type of bumper you’re looking for. Even better, Extreme Terrain also put together a comprehensive video on the subject hosted by Jeep Expert Merideth Evasew. Evasew goes over four of the most popular front bumpers and five rear bumpers in detail. She also covers the pros and cons of each, along with some of the cool hidden features each option presents.
Evasew does a nice job of breaking down the basic types of front and rear bumpers in the video. Which is obviously step one in making the right decision. First up, stubby front bumpers, which offer up what Evasew calls “a very aggressive look with “protection against any smaller head on obstacles” you might encounter. Evasew also covers the pros and cons of full-width, mid-width, and modular style front bumpers.
Rear bumpers can also be broken down into main styles, depending on your particular taste and needs. The categories here are much the same as front bumpers, and include full width, stubby, mid-width, and modular as well. Typically, Jeep fans will match their rear bumpers to front bumpers. But that isn’t always completely necessary. These days, there are so many options not just in bumper style and utility, but also available add-on accessories, that you can customize each to your particular needs.
