Jeep JL Wrangler Spy Shots: JK-Forum Exclusive
We’re sure the fact they were spotted in front of a Range Rover reveal was an ‘accident’.
Last week Range Rover held a big event in LA to roll out its new Velar SUV. One of our JK-Forum editors, Manuel Carrillo III, was at the event to get the scoop on what Range Rover is up to. But then, for some reason a pair of prototype JL Wranglers came rolling down Sunset Blvd., right in front of the event.
Now we aren’t are huge on conspiracy theories or anything, and there are some people who would call this a coincidence, but this feels deliberate. I can promise FCA knew exactly when and where the Velar event was, and any automaker trying to hide a car is not going to drive it down Sunset. FCA knew there would be journalists, and they knew they would have cameras.

What we are witnessing is Jeep being sneaky and trying to steal a bit of press spotlight out from under Range Rover’s feet. Even the timing felt very purposeful. Manuel snagged these shots as he was waiting for his valet. These JLs rolled past just as the event was ending, right when everyone should be talking about the Range Rover all over social media. Except spy shots of a new Jeep are far more interesting, so that Velar action was quieted a bit.
Personally we have to give props to Jeep. This was a smart and calculated move. We learned basically nothing new from these shots, and from a totally outside perspective, these photos and the Jeeps driving around mean nothing. Yet here we are, getting excited, and talking about the new JL Wrangler anyway.
Take a good look at our full gallery below, and be sure to let us know if you see anything new or interesting we missed. We’d also love to your thoughts on our little theory. Was this Jeep straight-up sniping press coverage? Was it effective? Obviously we tend to hang around websites and people that are Jeep-biased, but we sure heard a lot of noise about the JL this weekend rather than the Velar.
