An electric Jeep CJ5?
The idea of an electric Jeep isn’t necessarily groundbreaking, but it’s still an interesting concept, especially when it involves a CJ5.
The conversion for this one is being done by the electric boat maker New Electric in Europe and features a Siemens electric motor with a maximum output of 110 KW/148 horsepower and 300 nM/220 lb-ft of torque.
The battery capacity is said to be rated at 33 kWh, which Gas2.org points out is about 30 percent more than you’d find in a Nissan LEAF. That equates to a driving range of more than 100 miles on one charge; enough for most in the U.S. to drive to work and back home.
Of course, the real test will be whether the CJ5 EV still lives up to the capabilities of Jeeps off-road. If not, this is one mod probably best left to experimentation.
