EcoDiesel engine guarantees best in class fuel economy and the most torque for any production Jeep.

Ask and you shall receive! FCA is not a brand to shy away from the opinions and views of the enthusiasts that love the brand. The EcoDiesel is an engine that has been used in the FCA line up for the RAM 1500 since 2014. Recently, this engine has also been put to use in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, now that very engine will be gracing another member of the Jeep product line, the Wrangler.

This 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine plans to make itself a very attractive option in the vast Wrangler line-up. How exactly so? Well, to start the diesel will make 240 HP and 442 foot pounds of torque. That’s right, over 400 ft/lb in a Wrangler. That sounds like a lot of pushin’ for a Wrangler and that gets us excited. In order to learn more about this upcoming release we checked into TFLnow’s YouTube channel to see the new Wrangler in person.

The JL Wrangler Rubicon seen in the video is featured at the 2019 State Fair of Texas. To help us go through some of the details is the Jeep Brand Manager, Brandon Girmus. He starts off by letting us know that the Wrangler’s EcoDiesel is tuned quite different than that in the RAM 1500. Obviously, both of these vehicles serve a very different purposes and the Wrangler’s engine will be tuned to see fit. It will have more low-end torque to help with slow speed crawls as its emphasis is not towing, but off-road excellence.

Fuel economy is definitely a talking point as well, the diesels EPA fuel averages are not finalized yet, but it will be able to achieve higher figures than the currently most efficient 2.0-liter turbo inline-four at around 25 highway mpg. In addition, the diesel pricing and towing numbers are not officially released either, but Girmus did confirm that the EcoDiesel will also be offered in the 2020 Jeep Gladiator starting next year.

Can’t wait a whole year to get a new diesel-powered Jeep? Worry not, the diesel Wrangler will be hitting dealerships across the U.S. by the end of this year. What do you guys think of this new addition to the product line? Let us know in the comments below.
