Daily Driver Jeepster Commando Marches to Own Beat

The Jeepster has three different generations under three different manufacturers: Willys in the late ’40s, Kaiser in the ’60s, and American Motor Company (AMC) in the ’70s, after it bought Kaiser Jeep. The first two gens (the second gen was called the C101) had similar looks and were built in four different types: station wagon, convertible, pickup, and roadster. The third generation (C104) was known as the “Bullnose Commando” and had a new shape.

As you can see in the Petrolicious video below, Sam Fankuchen owns a second-generation 1970 Jeepster Commando. And according to the vid’s title, “This Jeepster Commando is Dauntless.”

Specifically, they’re talking about the Commando’s engine. This model was available with two powertrain options: the F134 Hurricane I4 with 75 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque, or the Dauntless 225 V6 with 160 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. Fankuchen’s Commando sports the V6.

Fankuchen bought this truck for a simple reason: he needed an open-topped vehicle to go surfing with. So, he stripped out some of the interior, put in marine leather on new Recaro seats, put a bed liner along the bottom for easy hosing, and tuned up the engine a bit.

Now it’s time to hit the beach!
