CJ MAHL Loader Is Quite the Classic Jeep Add-on
Fourwheeler touts CJ MAHL loader as “Holy Grail” of Jeep accessories.
Think you might be missing that one major accessory for your Jeep that truly separates it from the pack?
Well, here’s one that’s sure to turn heads at the next local meet.
Say hello, to the legendary MAHL front loader, a throwback to the days when Jeeps were really used as workhorses. Beginning as a prototype in 1947, the MAHL front-loaders could lift 1,100 pounds as high as 9-feet in the air. And even more if you installed arm extensions, as detailed in a Fourwheeler report.
No, you can’t actually buy one and hook it up to your Wrangler. They were specifically made for the earlier, post-war model Jeeps.

The cost for the contraption was listed at $343 dollars for a model known as the MAHL Model JA loader, and another $81.50 or $46.50 for the two buckets, depending on whether you opted for the Snow & Produce or Dirt & Gravel setup.
The loader used a Gre-Sen Model KH Hydraulic pump system for power, which operated through the transfer case.
Only 300 models were built, and most have fallen victim to the woes of wear and tear. But a man by the name of Glenn Byron stumbled across one in New York in 2007. Byron spent time restoring the loader and finally paired it with a ’48 CJ in 2016, making its first appearance at the 2016 Willys Jeep Rally in Houston Woods, Ohio.
