Hauk rat-rod Jeep was definitely one of the coolest sightings at Easter Jeep Safari.
Can’t get enough of Hauk Designs’ wild and crazy take on Jeeps?
Neither can I. Which is why I spent almost all day drooling over the Hauk “Colt 45” at 2017 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. I even managed to steal a little alone time with the Jeep before it started drawing a crowd, which enabled me to shoot a few photos of Hauk’s hot mod, designed as a tribute to the iconic “Colt 45” pistol.
The Jeep was first unveiled at the 2016 SEMA show under the glitzy lights of Las Vegas in November. But there’s nothing like seeing the Hauk Jeep set against the red terrain of Moab, Utah in mid-April.
Created from a 1948 Willys, the rat-rod themed Jeep has a host of unique features, including an antique walnut bed, machined gun-cylinder bed rails, and custom taillights made from vintage motorcycle headlights.

Unfortunately, nobody from the Hauk team was on hand for me to take any shots of the inside of the vehicle. But there’s enough on the outside of the “Colt 45” to keep you entertained.
In fact, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the Hauk Jeep was easily one of my favorite sightings in Moab. Well, on second thought, it’s probably more like my second or third favorite from Easter Jeep Safari week. After all, I did get the opportunity to test drive Jeep’s Quicksand and CJ66 concepts on the wide-open trails in Moab.
Then again, I imagine if I would have had a chance to drive the “Colt 45,” it might have given both of those Jeeps a good run for their money.
